Between Life and Death

"Project your soul from your body to solve puzzles and escape the dungeon of the cult keeping you prisoner."

About

Between Life and Death is the second game I made at TGA in Unity, and for this game we were encouraged to make it a mobile game. We all agreed it would be fun to try. We went for a puzzle game inspired by Lara Croft GO. For this project, a lot of my focus was on the environmental puzzle objects, such as levers, doors, moving platform and many such objects. I created all prefabs and logic for these objects and even the animations through moving the objects via code. I was also heavily involved in the climbing mechanic, and was part of many discussion on how we would implement the mechanic and how our movement system would work. I was also part of deciding how the games core mechanic, the out of body soul, would work and be implemented in the game.

Awards

Even though this game unfortunately didn't have as much polish as it deserved, as there wasn't time for it, we we're still given the honor to recieve both Mobile game of the year from Swedish Game Awards, and the peoples choice game of the year from the Rookies Awards.

Other contributions:
  • Created 3 different kinds of level and 4 different kinds of doors. These work differently depending on if you're in your ghost form or not.
  • Worked on moving platforms that follow a path.
  • Heavy involvment in desginging the systems we use for player movement and creation of levels. Climbing was a big obstacle for us at the start and it took a lot of designing and discussing to arrive where we landed.
  • Adding tools for easy placement of objects in environment.
  • Creating animated environmental objects such as doors opening and objects swaying using code.
